Carman grew up in San Giovanni La Punta, near Catania, in contact with the instruments and the folk music of her father Joseph, including a guitar owned by Domenico Modugno , blues records, and some of BB King of Creedence Clearwater Revival.
In 1990, Carmen went into another group, Moon Dog's Party (the name comes from a program devoted to American '50s blues), who performed in various local pubs with a soul repertoire, including songs of Janis Joplin, the main inspiration Carmen, Otis Redding and Aretha Franklin
Thus Carmen arrives in the ears of Michele Santoro, who invited her to a tribute to Mia Martini. On that occasion she plays "Treasure Island" and notes from the world record.

Around 2400 BC this natural monument of balast rock was created by the eruption of the volcano Monte Moio. The entire valley of the Alcantara river was flowed by lava, right to the place where the first colony in Sicily was founded by Greeks. The Alcantara gorges are located in the omonymous valley in Eastern Sicily. They are about 25 metres high and between 2 and 5 metres wide. The most spectacular segment of Alcantara gorges is located in the vicinity of Motta Camastra, where the river bed is walkable for about 3 km. The structure of stone walls in this spot is really characteristic. The rock is composed by a special kind of basaltic lava - poor in silicon and rich in iron, magnesium and calcium - which cooled down very slowly in time, creating impressive prismatic and hexagonal juts nowhere else in the world to be seen.

How to reach Alcantara Gorge

It is not difficult to find Alcantara Gorges following the main road inland from Taromina-Giardini Naxos turning then along the 185 highway to the place called Francavilla di Sicilia you reach after 13 kilometres the Alcantara complex.

The less intrepid traveller can reach the gorges with a lift, but the more adventurous can descend into the gorge on foot, where the river can be followed for about 150 meters through mysterious shadowy rocky bends along the walls of the rock-face

Bronte,
the Italian capital of the pistachi0

Sicily is the only place in Italy where pistachios are grown, and have become quite expensive due to their limited production. Pistachio cultivation in Sicily is laborious work. The trees only bear fruit every two years and are planted in areas that prevent the use of machines to harvest the fruit. The intense, full flavor and grassy aroma of Bronte pistachios comes from the mineral rich soil and the Sicilian sun and air. The pistachios have a high concentration of vitamins and protein.

The city of Bronte is perched at the top of slope of volcanic rock, located about half a mile northeast of Etna. The Arabs, who once controlled the region, are responsible for bringing pistachio trees to Sicily from the Middle East. Still today the Sicilian word for pistachio is frastuca, from the Arab fustuq, and frastucara reffers to a forest of pistachio trees.

Bronte pistachios are an essential ingredient in many Sicilian desserts. The pistachios are used whole or as a paste to make torroni, cassate and gelato. They are also added to various cured meats like sausages and mortadella, and chicken galantine

Ferrovia Circumetnea represents today, the only railway reality with narrow gauge in exercise in all the Sicily, being been, in the time, sluices or abandoned all the other similar railroads.
When, about in 1880, was gone delineating the skeleton of the sicialian railway net, in many centers borned requests for the connection on track with the rest of the island. The same happened in the countries around volcano: at that time they had reach a remarkable development yet, thanks to the favorable environmental conditions, and had therefore good game in their demands
With regal decree of the 31 December 1883 was constituted a Consortium for the construction and the exercise of the Circumetnea railroad, Who wants to use the Circumetnea Railroad leaving from Catania, it must o in the historical one via Caronda, where has center the master station of Ferrovia Circumetnea called Catania Borgo.
At the entrance of the famous station of Catania Borgo the old vapor locomotive n.14 (nicknamed "Meusa"), that is the same that went with Edmondo De Amicis in his travel at the beginning of the century. Heading towards the periphery of Catania, the shod line cross-sectionally cuts the city center until meeting the first obvious trace of the presence of the Etna: the tap of 1669, that one that caught up and destroyed Catania.
The layout assumes now unique characteristic and, between the houses of the periphery, the railroad is flanked from black lava cliffs, that will never abandon it until the arrival.
After Misterbianco opens a huge panorama towards the mountain with a vegetation that varies continuously.
It's a country that is cultivated a lot: the citrus groves leave the place to the olive-tree, to some rare vineyard, the fichidindia cultivate in intensive way
Follow, one by one, the other towns that encircle the volcano on this depositor: Paternò, S. Maria di Licodia, Biancavilla, Adrano.
